Window Washing...Outdoors



Washing Windows Made Easy?
A chore we certainly dread....I posted this post 3 years ago when I first started my Blog!
Never in a million years did I think "this post" would ever take off like it did! 
To this date we have had OVER Eleven Thousand viewings!!!
Amazing! Thanks everyone! Here it is again for a re-run.... 
Washing windows on the outside is a big job. But, I found and easy solution over 30 years ago that works! It has made this chore a lot simpler.  Secret weapon, "Woolite"! What you need; a bucket of water, a soft brush on a long pole, a bottle of *Woolite (*I use original or concentrate) and a hose.
Step one: Pour a cap full of *Woolite in a bucket of water 
Step two: Hose off the window with water
Step three: Using the soft brush, dip in bucket and gently wash window
Step four: Hose off the window with water, again
Step five: You're DONE! Let air dry, for a spot free finish!!!
The *Woolite works great on bugs and gunk. The soap causes a sheeting action, so after rinsing with water, there is no need for drying or using a squeegee.

    To attach to the roof, the window cleaner must either use a good attachment point such as a structural beam or hook, or use an independent, counterweighted roof rig or parapet clamp. Both of these are portable from building to building and are most suitable to rope descent cleaning. Permanent davits, capable of handling much more weight, are often included on large buildings to suspend the much heavier window cleaning-exterior maintenance scaffolds from. Most buildings and rooftops were not designed with the window cleaner in mind, and it is not always possible to find suitable anchor points other than the parapet wall or a railing to attach the safety line to. In this case, some sort of counterweight sturdy enough to be used as an anchor point, other than the roof rig or parapet clamp, must be used.

    Thanks for this tip. I love it!! We have over +50 windows, and this has saved so much money by not hiring someone to come it and clean all this windows. Truly amazed how well this works. How would I clean the inside with this solution !

    Thanks Karen....i dont wash windows any other way....for the inside i make the same solution, in a small bucket, and plain water in another bucket (or squirt bottle), use a wash cloth in each bucket. Wash with one and rinse with another. I have paper towels to wipe excess water off... i just squeeze the washcloth well then wash the window and repeat with the plain water. It has the same affect...we just have to protect wood sills and other items inside the house . It's so easy on the inside too..i love how it cuts the grime and film so fast!....Enjoy your clean windows... ☺NeeCee

    These are really great tips. Every time that I wash my windows it always leaves them really streaky. I've tried everything from newspapers to wipe it down, to just soap and water. This will really help to make my home look that much better.

    While using these methods, you wouldn't see one spot on the windows! You really know you stuff when it comes to cleaning windows. I'm going to have to give these instructions a try, and see how much better my windows look. Thanks so much!

    We live in an area where the water is extremely hard and leaves spots on windows as well as vehicles when exposed to overspray from sprinklers. Does the woolite work on this problem or do yo have another solution?

    I've never thought of using Woolite as a window cleaner! I looks really effective! My husband and I have tried to clean the outside windows, and they always seem to look dirty when we finish. Hopefully this solution works better!

    We have people coming over all the time to wash our windows for us. My mom does very well at keeping them clean or else we would use their services. I'll need them once I have my own house for sure.

    I have been needing to clean my windows for a while now, but I don't have the time. I think most of the reason I haven't is because It is hard to get the gunk off. Maybe I will try your Woolite method.

    My windows are always getting dirty from the dust and whatever else is in the air. It doesn't also help that I live by a freeway.     After reading this, I am not surprised that this post is so popular! I never would have thought to use laundry detergent to clean my windows! The windows in my sun room are so dirty, and I have tried a few things to clean them, but it just doesn't seem to do the trick. I am going to try this this weekend! Thank you so much for sharing!

    Now that it's warm out, I would love to clean my windows. I always keep the insides wiped down, but the exterior is a whole other story. I always go through so many paper towels, I had never thought of using a brush like this! Not only will that get it nice and clean, but it's so much more ecofriendly.
