Faux Marbled Walls with Awesome Results...

A simple paint change in our Master Bathroom, added light to the room & depth to the walls.  Just the look I was wanting! Our bathroom was too dark, we only get direct morning light. The dark forest green wall behind the sunken tub didn't help. The off white marble tiles have dark green veins, along with dark green diamond tiles for insets. I needed to keep some green in the room....

The back wall has been repainted in a faux marble look. I left the original forest green paint on the wall.  Then, I used a light tan and a cream over the top blending all of the colors in the room. I created a marbled look for the wall. Now you can see the veins and depth of the heavy plaster style walls. With the dark green the wall, the texture was barely noticed.

 Just look at the difference! I love the lighter look and the room looks bigger!

 Touches of green in the decor blends with the greens in the tiles and the veins of paint on the wall. The window shutters color blend nicely with the new paint color. They are a beautiful mahogany color and looked to RED with the dark green.

 I tried to give you a better look of the paints before & after! the marbles look is very subtle, so I enhance the paint color (brownish) below so you can see the marbled look up close!....

The green is actually much darker, I had to lighten it so it didn't look black! You can't see the wall texture at all! The paint on the right has been enhanced so you can see the details. The camera really didn't do the "Justice" I needed! The actual is paint, is now Marbled and a very subtle creamy tan with dark green veins.

The Marbled Look:
1. I left the Dark Forest Green paint
2. Sponged a light Tan over the top..(It looked horrible!)
3. I then sponged a light cream over the top of the 2 colors! (Yikes still ugly!)
4. Then...I used a plastic cup with WATER in it & a paint brush (2 1/2 inches wide) with a touch of cream paint on it. Then I dipped the brush in the water cup and white washed the walls in a swirl and swiping motion. I worked in small patches. Blending the edges of the last patch as I worked quickly. The secret is to not use too much paint or water. You don't want it running down the walls in streaks! Blend, Swirl & Sweep....Repeat...blending over the previous sponged area and the current blending area until all of the wall is finished.  (AWE....Much better...I love it!) Perfect!!!

The last step gives you the marbled look. It lets the veins of the darker paints show through, yet they have a light white-wash over the top to soften and blend the colors. At different times of the day, depending on the light, the marbled wall seems to subtly change color & depth. I love it...Just what I wanted.

This is the powder room, off the sunken tub area. Similar colors, are in here along with a picture that mimics the one near the sunken tub. Not shown is my antique vanity, which still has a dark green wall behind it, and is the focal point for that room!

Now the room's colors blend beautifully! **On a side note we bought this home after it had been built & painted. Some of the paint didn't quite fit our decor. This was one of the areas that didn't work for Me! I love my Stone Lady's on either side of the bay window. This new paint really shows them off nicely. AND..., I love the lighter, brighter look for putting on my makeup!

A Vintage Kitchen Chandelier...

"My Vintage Chrystal Chandelier"

 I bought two of these baskets 2-3 years ago on clearance at a gift shop! They are quite large! I hadn't decided what to do with them yet...and had even loaned them out for a few weddings! Mostly they were sitting & waiting.  Then it hit me...

We are building a Kitchen Garden/Greenhouse....Duh! What was I thinking??? I needed an outdoor Kitchen Chandelier! I had been collecting old silverware pieces...and I had some small Christmas Ornaments that were Crystal tear drops, also found on clearance! Project born!

 With my foot in a brace/boot and not able to get around with ease... I set out to design My Chandelier! (I had to stay off my foot as much as possible.) And ...the results were Heavenly......How fun to put together this Beauty while I was (kinda) laid up!... (I'm not a very good Couch Potato! I get bored easily I guess....) The results were Amazing...Can you tell I LOVE it???

"My Cowgirl Shabby Chic Bling Bling Thing Chandelier", NeeCee!

 I can't wait to BUILD my outdoor Kitchen garden/Greenhouse....

Here is what I used:

• A heavy garden basket, 
• Bailing Wire (electric fence wire, not oiled...:) Can you tell we live on a ranch?) 
• Old silverware from thrift stores, layout the order you like before you start the project. **I placed my silverware in order, by place settings; fork, knife, spoon, repeat...then I used a serving piece...repeat around the chandelier.
• Plastic Crystal Christmas Ornaments
• Needle Nose Pliers with a cutter

Instructions:
Cut wire at arms length.  Weave and twist the items on the basket. I did a little "rosette" twist on each end of the wire...see the photo for examples.

 With the ornaments, I removed the hanging strings and cut a wire  about 8 inches long and attached to the basket. *Attach in the same fashion as mentioned above.

Each piece of silverware was wired on at the top of the utensil, on the eating end and then again on the handle. The handles were wired-on near the mid range of the basket for security (and to hold them in place, so they won't stick out). I did a free form messy-look style...for looks and character! If done in this fashion you won't need to drill press holes into the silverware...Besides I love the Shabby Chic Vintage Look it creates!

I may have to hang it elsewhere first! It's too pretty not to display! Although....I do have another basket waiting in the wings...Better start hunting for more silverware...

Bird Cage Chandelier...

I bought this Bird Cage at a thrift store called Grandma's Treasures...

I knew instantly how I was going to use it!!!

I secretly hoped it was priced to BUY!!!

"My Birdhouse Chandelier"

 It was price to SELL...I love being in the right place at the right time! This piece is very heavy, wrought iron!

The $20 price tag worked for ME!

 I didn't paint it! I left it as is, but I did use a clear spray on the bottom of the cage to seal it from rusting more! It was in very good condition. BUT...

I did NOT like the metal leaves placed around the cage...

(My Kitty's had to help check it out!)

 The hook is very sturdy....No problem hanging this baby!

 I wanted to use Solar lights....that way I don't have to worry about where I place it or having power available. 

 Reba decided to pose for YOU!

 Mac had become easily BORED!...What a Fat Kitty!

 I grabbed my small bolt cutters and sniped off the metal leaves!

Much better,.... I think!

 YA...Much Better!

 I grabbed a few supplies, pulled out the solar lights and in a matter of minutes I had my new outdoor Chandelier! Just a few zip ties and I was done!

I bought the lights on clearance at Target and I used 4 sets! At $5 a piece...
I had made my Outdoor Chandelier for a total of $40!

 I used the small zip ties to attach the lights to the top of the cage. I staggered the lengths of the lights and placed all of the solar boxes on top so the batteries may be easily replaced.

Our NEXT big Project....The YARD

So, these are the trees I am considering the Bird Cage Chandelier might hang.

Just a little sun charging and I was in business....

Now, which tree should I hang it from???

And where is that Man of Mine when I NEED him! LOL

Our Hallway Decor...

I have been waiting to add furniture decor to my hallway...

I was looking for some narrow pieces of furniture. I didn't want anything to be an obstruction or hard to maneuver around.

I was getting frustrated trying to find the perfect furniture...

I wanted the space to reflect my style!

What I call "New & Old Eclectic with Family Style"

 Silly Me...I was looking too hard! 

I ended up using furniture I bought a few years ago...

I bought an additional bench and two vases to complete my look!

I had added these embellishments over the doorways soon after we moved into this house. Other than that the hallway has been bare for 5+ years...

 The bench on the left was an awesome find at TJ Maxx! The pillows too!

Feel in love with the postage stamp look...probably because my Daddy was our hometown's... "down town mail man"!

The bench went perfect with my industrial style furniture, which was purchased at World Market a few years ago.

The throw rug is actually a bathroom rug also found at TJ Maxx and has a shabby look in a brown paper bag color! The basket underneath is handy for carrying things up and down the stairs.

OH and Reba, my Kitty wanted to pose for you...

Our clock is patiently waiting for my husbands office to be completed...for now he waits here!

"Fred & Ethel" , the statuary pieces were a gift from my hubby's parents. Oh, WOW...20+years ago! Too Cute!

LOVE these Vases...I found them recently at Pier One! The small pot with the flowers is actually a small antique spittoon on top of an old book!

The metal trunks were also a TJ Maxx purchase last spring in the gardening department.

I love to incorporate FAMILY photos (Hubby & the Boys Cowboy Style) and items in all of my decor. In my opinion that is what makes a house a home. Pride of Family! 

Anyone can have a "store bought" look...I love to use our family items to reflect our true selves, our style!

Little Touches to the Laundry Room...

So....I was at a friends store, "All about U" , and I saw this sign!

Loved it, bought it!

 Her store is awesome, it's located in the Central Valley... 
a little town called Denair!
She's on Main Street...stop by and see her if you are in town! 
You won't be disappointed.

 I LOVE it! It was perfect for my laundry room!

I had been looking for a laundry room sign....

I found one at Target!
